Cool Wax Review

So, here is a question for all you lovely ladies. Have you ever pulled down the sun visor in your car, popped open the mirror and wondered why the heck you left the house looking that way? Oh! And when you in direct sunlight it's 10x worse! Well, when this happens to me, I usually see all my tiny baby 'stache' hairs. :| Gross right? Yeah, it's pretty hideous. I have been in search of something easy and affordable to wax my upper lip and chin. I don't want to invest in a wax warmer and crap if I'm only going to use it for my facial hair. Most of the time when I want something for facial hair it's all about hard waxes. And Hard waxes, let me tell ya, is the worst thing I have EVER used! It's messy and it hurts like a...well, you know. I find it breaks in little pieces and you have to rip each little piece off. I may as well pluck. There is also sugaring, which I haven't used. I'd like to try it, but it tends to be a little out of my price range. I came across this product called Cool Wax at my local Sally Beauty Supply. It requires no heating, it claimed to be easy and it wasn't (obviously) hard wax! It sounded pretty good. The wax it's self is about 8 bucks. It's not very big so it's perfect for facial hair. I had to buy the strips separately. For 25 full-sized strips and 10 spatulas it was about 5ish bucks. It came in a lavender scent and a cucumber scent. I chose the lavender scent because lavender is notorious for calming (which is beneficial when waxing lol). I had a good amount of facial hair (For any gents reading this, I'm sorry you had to see that. But we ladies get facial hair too). I opened the puck and right away I knew it was going to be a bit messy to work with. I dipped my spatula in and spread it on the area to be waxed. I took my pre-cut strip and popped it over the wax. After rubbing the strip a few times, I braced myself and ripped. So did it work? No! Not one hair! I then placed the strip on again. Rubbed and ripped. This time pulling much faster. This time I got a few. By the 3rd try, I had gotten it off. Although my skin was red and stinging a bit. It didn't get the peach fuzz, which isn't what bothers me about my upper lip anyways. So what's the final verdict? It wasn't horrible, which means I didn't hate it enough to return it. It's also water-soluble so it was easy to clean up. Would I buy it again? Probably not. It got the hairs off, but not enough to my liking. Would I recommend it to a friend? I doubt it. If your interested in trying the cool wax anyways, you can pick it up at Sally Beauty Supply.

I think at the end of the day, I need to invest in a wax pot and start waxing more body parts. Ha ha!
Do you guys have any other suggestions as far as waxing is concerned? Have you found an easy and afford solution to your hair situation? Hit up the comments Beauty Queens.

Goodbye Sock Monkeys, Hello Sock Buns =D

Trend alert! See that sock monkey sitting on your bed? Well grab a pair of scissors because you may need to do some surgery. I mean, if you don't wear socks and have absolutely none laying around the house. If you do, then Stinky (the monkey) will not need to have the surgery after all. This is the summer trend to watch for. I spotted this on a website I was checking out and had to give it a try. My hair is just past my shoulders, so when I want to do a bun you can imagine how skimpy it is. This trend adds va-va-voom volume to your bun. I added a cute scarf around it and it really gave it an urban feel.  Here is a video about how to create your sock bun base:

Seems pretty easy right? I thought it was going to be alot more complicated than I anticipated but it was actually easy-peasy lemon squeezy! Here are written instructions on how to achieve the 'sock bun'.

  1. Put your hair in a pony tail. Make sure you position the pony properly because that is where your bun will sit, once you have it in a bun you won't able to re-position it.
  2. Take your rolled up sock (or if your cheating, your bun former) and place it over your pony.
  3. Slide the rolled up sock to almost the end of the pony.
  4. Begin rolling the sock base down your pony while rolling your hair with it as you go.
  5. Continue rolling until it's rolled down to your head and the secure with a hair elastic.
  6. Pin any loose pieces to create a smooth bun.
  7. Add accents such as a flower or a scarf if you desire
There! You've just created a sock bun.

Hope this trend works for you. What do you think of the sock bun trend? Would you use a sock or just go with a bun former? What funky accessory would you add? Let me know...

Gradient Nails

Hi Everybody,

Well, the weekend is over and it's back to the old grind of things. One thing I'm super stoked about is all the new episodes of my fave shows coming up this week. That, my friends, is called 'looking on the bright side'. Well, after a weekend of friends, laughs and Martini's, it's time to get back to reality, which means...work, which means no time to paint my nails. So, with that in mind, I painted my nails tonight which will hopefully get me through the week. I tried a new technique called 'Gradient'. If you haven't heard of it before, it's basically a faded manicure. I used the ultra sparkly China Glaze colour called 'Optical Illusion' to achieve this look. So, what you do it this:

1. Apply a base coat to your natural nail.
2. Take your polish brush and wipe as much access off of it as possible.
3. Paint nails 2/3 of the way down your nail, leaving a faint amount of polish on nail.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 but this time only paint 1/3 of the way down your nail.
5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 again but this time only painting the tip.
6. Finally, apply a top coat.

The finished product should resemble this:

Sweet and simple right? You can do this with a variety of colours. Another alternative is to paint the nail a contrasting colour and then doing the gradient technique over top. Hope you enjoyed this nails technique.

What do you think would be a good mix of colors to do this technique with? Do you like the sparkly look? Let me know...

Sarah

P.S- I haven't forgotten about the 'sock bun' and I'll get it up soon. :)

New Hair

Hey Everyone,

Hope every ones week went well. That being said, I hope we all have a stellar weekend. :) So, I am trying to put the finishing touches on my vlog all about the sock bun. Hopefully it gets done this week. I gave my two weeks notice in for my one retail job (So excited!), so hopefully I can focus more on the blog in my spare time. Anyways, my point is, I want to post my vlog post asap. I'm using my sister as a model and she is being a little difficult. Ha Ha! No, she's actually being a very good sport, but we have both been crazy busy. But I promise to have the vlog up by next week. So, the other day while blasting Sargent Peppers Lonely Hearts Club band  by the Beatles and cleaning up my room, I looked in the mirror and realized that I needed a dye job and trim. So, I contacted my fab hairdresser at cutz to go and finally got it done today. Here are some pics:

Nice huh? Yeah, I love it too. :D This is the ombre look that seems so popular these days. I was going to darken it up but I happened to style it a certain way the other day and wanted to keep the ombre thing going on and I'm glad I did. Don't you love when you get your hair freshly done? Nothing boosts confidence levels more than a new 'do'.

In other news, I painted my nails (again!) I did the whole statement nail this time.

What do you think? The colors used where both china glaze. The solid blue is For Audrey and the sparkly one is a color from the Prismatic Collection called Optical Illusion. FYI The Prismatic Collection is available at Sally Stores now! They have some really gorgeous colors to choose from. For Audrey was a huge color last year. Every time I went to purchase it, they had sold out. It's a very fun color for summer.

So, I have a few questions for you. What do you think of my hair? My nails? And the colors used? Oh, And will you be giving the Prismatic Collection a go? Hit up the comments Beauts :)
Hugs & kisses

Side Note- Nail Art

Hey Everyone,

Ready for todays side note? Today it's all about nail art. I was a little bored this afternoon and got a hold of a dotting tool. If you aren't sure what a dotting tool is...google it! It's probably the easier way to find out what it is. Here are a few pics of some of the art I did on myself and niece. P.S- They are far from perfect but it was my first time doing both so gimme a break :P

Enjoy!

Liquid Eyeliner- Yay or Nay?

Calling all Beauty Queens!

This is my first viewers opinion post, so I'm going to need your help! It's all about liquid eyeliner. I am a huge liquid eyeliner fan but I have met many people that actually shun liquid eyeliner at all costs. I actually had a lady say to me once, "do you want me to blind myself?". My answer to that question is "NO! If you shake like an old geezer than perhaps you would poke yourself in the eye and blind yourself. But no! I don't want you to blind yourself". (FYI: that wasn't my exact response. But I do have a flare for the melodramatic) I personally can't use a pencil eyeliner on my top lash line. It just doesn't look right and it's way too much work to blend it all. I say 'YAY' to liquid eyeliner!

What about you? Liquid eyeliner, yay or nay? The floor is yours Beauty Queens.

Stay Fabulous!

Side Note :)

Hey everyone,

Hope everyone enjoyed the fantastic weather we had today. It was a welcome change since we have had some chilliness going on the last couple of days. The warm weather got me in the mood to do a quick pedi tonight. Felt fantastic and it was a nice treat before I face the next two days (Don't ask!) I purchased three new china glaze colors (Orange Knockout, Peachy Keen & Pelican Grey). I chose to pop on the Pelican Grey and they turned out so nice. I only needed two coats and then I topped it off with my precious Seche Vite top coat. It's really a nice alternative to white. Here are some pics:

Nice color right?

Hope you enjoyed this sidenote. Please continue to vote on my beach poll!

Love,

Sarah
